Another one of those..... quiz

You scored as Postmodernist. Postmodernism is the belief in complete open interpretation. You see the universe as a collection of information with varying ways of putting it together. There is no absolute truth for you; even the most hardened facts are open to interpretation. Meaning relies on context and even the language you use to describe things should be subject to analysis.

Postmodernist

75%

Cultural Creative

75%

Idealist

69%

Existentialist

50%

Modernist

50%

Materialist

44%

Romanticist

31%

Fundamentalist

31%

</td>

What is Your World View?
Officially I have a headache .......

All day (since 7am-till 3:15pm) I have been extraordinarily productive and pounding on my computer getting work done. And now I have a headache, so, have decided instead to 'work' on some utterly silly quizzes........

First of many..... How is my walk! hmm.... mostly using my two legs and feet.... thats what I thought.....

<td align="center">Your walk is:
Curiously Proper

Take this quiz at QuizGalaxy.com</td>

Ha, nice one.... what will happen after I die? Okay, I am not too eager to find this one out very soon. There are so many things I have not done and so many things I have not told the one I love.

After you die...
Heaven

After death, you will exist in heaven. Everything and everyone you love will constantly surround you for all of eternity. You lucky scoundrel.

Although you do not have a lot of faith, you are devoted to making this world better, in the short time that you have to live.
Happy New Year to all.

I know, I planned not to have new year resolutions, but I just cannot help it, they are so much fun to make.

So, here they are not in any particular order:

Go to the gym or exercise more regularly.... Right, right..... I might have to stay away from the gym for the first week, because I am quite certain the world will be there, to honor, their new year resolution. Okay, revision (already!) go to gym after the first week of year, may be after first two weeks.

Balance work and personal life a little better. That is (a) take some time off (b) not work on the weekends, unless, of course it is absolutely absolutely necessary with a deadline, and (c) relax a bit more.

See more movies! This is easy. Should that count as a resolution? Should resolutions be hard! I don't think so, this one I am 100% sure that I will be able to keep. :)

Play more board games. There are millions of games out there, all beckoning me to play.

Complete home projects.... well, this is never going to be 'complete', but as close as I can get would be good. Ah, that goes to garden too.

Keep more in touch with my nephews.... and I seem to have a boat load of those. May as well keep more in touch with family.

Learn one (only one) brand new skill, something I have not done before.... hmmmm... the search begins for a new skill. I don't want to be a master at it, but reasonably good.

Read more..... fun books.... not work books.

Knit more..... another easy one.

Really, at the end of the day, relax, take it easy.... because I will be here only once.......

Ghost Town.....

Yesterday, my office was buzzing with busy bees trying to wrap up work and today it is a ghost town. It is really great, because I can catch up with odd and ends,

Items that I have ignored over the past 355 odd days:

Personal Development Money: Use it or lose it money. And I think I am going to lose most of it. (Wah!) I did spend some money on meaningful books and software (ExamDiff Pro, Visibone - Browser book..... ), but for the life of me, cannot figure out how and where to to spend more. This is going to be my research work for the next week. So, if anyone has any ideas to get cool programming stuff then I would love to hear. I thought of .NET books, but I did that last year and haven't finished reading those as yet. I doubt that buying two of the same is going to make me read twice as fast or hard.

Flex spending: I don't think I signed up for this.... or did I?? Well, my HR is out for the rest of year.... so, oops.

Who is my PCP (Primary care physician) again?!? Ah, found her, well, may as well as schedule a meeting with her to see how she is doing. I hate to go to hospitals during flu season, I will be fine going in and invariably catch the flu coming out. (Ack!) Maybe I can wait till summer, I feel pretty darn healthy, so no point in aggravating the peaceful immune system.

Seasonal items that I have ignored, thus far:

Where is my Christmas List (or Holiday List). Did I get everyone gifts/cards? Nope, too late, maybe next year. :) I am not going anywhere near a mall, a post office (except to mail Netflix), and crowds.

And, finally (drum roll) new year resolutions...... oh! those! darn! I think I will make them up again this year for the fun of it and then break them promptly thereafter. One new year resolution that has a high probability of sticking....... is take some time off this year and actually work more 'normal' hours and get out more often than I have been in past several years.

To Orlando and back

Earlier this month, I traveled down to Orlando, FL. We (my friends and I) were scheduled to fly out on the storming friday. But bunch of us decided to leave earlier, hmm, the night before. (Wise decision? Not sure!) The flight took off on schedule and got to Orlando by midnight. I made it out of Boston, but my checked in bags did not. This was weird, I was second in line to get checked in at Boston, between two of my friends. Both my friends got their luggage and mine ..... well took a trip away from me. I should have been panicking, but maybe I was too tired at one in the morning, to be worried. It was weird though checking in into a swanky hotel with only my laptop. By and by, I did get my baggage, apparently it made it to Orlando, but the tag had fallen off. So, within 12 hours, I was happily reunited with my bag. :)

The trip proved to be as predicted, busy, busy and busy but very good. It was fabulous to meet (ever so briefly) varied movers and shakers of health care industry in the US, UK and other countries. I did not get a chance to get out of the hotel to go see anything this time. Perhaps next time.

After seven days, I was thrilled to get back to wintry, snowy and cold Boston. More so, to be home.

Day of quizzes

you are mediumspringgreen
#00FA9A

Your dominant hues are cyan and green. Although you definately strive to be logical you care about people and know there's a time and place for thinking emotionally. Your head rules most things but your heart rules others, and getting them to meet in the middle takes a lot of your energy some days.

Your saturation level is very high - you are all about getting things done. The world may think you work too hard but you have a lot to show for it, and it keeps you going. You shouldn't be afraid to lead people, because if you're doing it, it'll be done right.

Your outlook on life is bright. You see good things in situations where others may not be able to, and it frustrates you to see them get down on everything.

the spacefem.com html color quiz

I am pretty sure, Wrath should measure much higher (maybe it was too early in the morning). I agree with the measure of Pride, but not Greed. Oh, and I do agree with levels of Sloth, Lust and Envy. No idea where I would put Gluttony..... ah well....

What is it with my Stanley Measuring Tape?

For the past month or so, I have had my enclosed porch under renovation. I had one contractor, his assistants and one floor refinisher in the house at varied and sometime overlapping times. The weirdest part of the whole project was that almost every time one of the above fellows worked on the porch my very simple, unassuming Stanley 25 foot measure tape disappeared. After couple of calls, the tape was returned back. Finally, the porch is about 80% done and rest 20% is mostly my work of decorating it, and finally, I have utterly lost the tape! I vow that the next tape I buy, will have something wacky engraved on it, so it would be embarrassing for anyone but me to have it.

Trip to Orlando, Florida...... all work and no play.....

Next week, as an annual ritual, my entire company will be making a general exodus from the cold, possibly snowy Northeast to the warm, possibly sunny Southeast. This is a 7 day visit to Mickey-land for the Annual National Forum. Of the seven days, I will probably have one evening to spare, and no idea what I should do while I am there. Last year, while in Orlando, I had more than one evening. So, I wandered around in Epcot one evening and spent another day at Kennedy Space Center. Epcot was dazzling with all the rides and shows and, of course, the fireworks. But the Kennedy Space Center definitely takes the cake. I guess this time, I don't have too much time, else I would have liked to go to Universal Studios or the Orlando Science Center, but we'll see.

Why English Teachers Die Young......

A friend and colleague at work forwarded this hilarious top 25 actual analogies and metaphors found in high school essays:

Her face was a perfect oval, like a circle that had its two sides gently compressed by a Thigh Master.

His thoughts tumbled in his head, making and breaking alliances like underpants in a dryer without Cling Free.

He spoke with the wisdom that can only come from experience, like a guy who went blind because he looked at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it and now goes around! the country speaking at high schools about the dangers of looking at a solar eclipse without one of those boxes with a pinhole in it.

She grew on him like she was a colony of E.coli and he was room-temperature Canadian beef.

She had a deep, throaty, genuine laugh, like that sound a dog makes just before it throws up.

Her vocabulary was as bad as, like, whatever.

He was as tall as a six-foot-three-inch tree.

The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn't.

McBride fell 12 stories, hitting the pavement like a Hefty bag filled with vegetable soup.

From the attic came an unearthly howl. The whole scene had an eerie, surreal quality, like when you're on vacation in another city and Jeopardy comes on at 7:00 p.m. instead of 7:30.

Her hair glistened in the rain like a nose hair after a sneeze.

The hailstones leaped from the pavement, just like maggots when you fry them in hot grease.

Long separated by cruel fate, the star-crossed lovers raced across the grassy field toward each other like two freight trains, one having left Cleveland at 6:36 p.m. traveling at 55 mph, the other from Topeka at 4:19 p.m. at a speed of 35 mph.

John and Mary had never met. They were like two hummingbirds who had also never met.

He fell for her like his heart was a mob informant and she was the East River.

Even in his last years, Grandpappy had a mind like a steel trap, only one that had been left out so long, it had rusted shut.

Shots rang out, as shots are wont to do.

The plan was simple, like my brother-in-law Phil. But unlike Phil, this plan just might work.

The young fighter had a hungry look, the kind you get from not eating for a while.

He was as lame as a duck. Not the metaphorical lame duck, either but a real duck that was actually lame, maybe from stepping on a land mine or something.

The ballerina raised gracefully en pointe and extended one slender leg behind her, like a dog at a fire hydrant.

He was deeply in love. When she spoke, he thought he heard bells, as if she were a garbage truck backing up.

Her eyes were like limpid pools, only they had forgotten to put in any pH cleanser.

She walked into my office like a centipede with 98 missing legs.

It hurt the way your tongue hurts after you accidentally staple it to the wall.

Boston uncorked..... wine tasting

Recently, couple of friends and me went for Australian Wine tasting. I am very partial to Australian and New Zealand wines.... mostly in the reds, but some in whites too. It was a great evening to kick back and relax at the Living Room and taste (mostly drink) some good whites and some great reds. Here is a picture of my friends and me http://www.bostonuncorked.org/display/ShowPicture?moduleId=130496&pictureId=241139&galleryId=20839

Porch looks.... in a word gorgeous

It has been a long day for me and a long day for my contractor. The porch looks lovely, It finally has moved out from the last century to the present. Gone are the old dark and dungeony (is that a word, ah, well) wood panels. Gone is the horrible carpet, and totally in is the white washed walls, and gorgeous french doors...... Damn, I cannot stop feeling excited about a room. Hopefully I will have pictures soon.

Loved the movie, not just because Gerard Butler is in it. It is really very heart warming movie. It just went on my buy list.

On the entertainment front, I finally released budget to get Ticket to Ride and Ravensburger 1500 Piece Castle Puzzle. Impatiently waiting to open one or the other. :)

Porch renovation getting closer to completion... but feels eons away

Whew, these contractors sure do take their time in completing projects. In this case, I cannot really blame the contractors. I wanted to be a part of the construction and with my current crazy work schedule, that was almost impossible.

Finally, my contractor and I have found a happy tie-breaker. He does the construction and completion and I can work from home so I can get my work done and pay him. This works for me and him.

Today might be a good day for most of the construction stuff to be completed. The French doors now have a oak threshold. The molding is getting done. Hopefully the drywall primer goes up today. :)

Exciting news is that I will have the floor guys come in, the week after thanksgiving and we will have sanded, repaired and polished the floors. Cannot wait till all of it is done. :)

After all this the fun part really starts... :) Painting, Putting shelves and really decorating it, rather making it nicer. :)

Good Night and Good Luck

Saw Good Night and Good Luck last night, and to say the least, I was impressed. Liked the how the subject matter was handled and felt it was well directed. Good Job George Clooney!

It was good to get out of the work routine that had set in for the last few weeks (months?) and just go out with friends, grab a bite at Grendels (in Harvard Sq.) and catch a movie. Nice.

It has been almost 21 days since I have posted anything, between work, work, work and work, I haven't had two minutes to myself. This is bad.

Everything, I planned to do in the last one month, didn't happen or couldn't happen. Does anyone feel like you have been running so hard, so fast, and got nowhere. Thats me right now.

I need a break, any suggestions for just chilling out?

Serenity....

Ok, I have not seen the movie yet. This is so not me! After having circled the calendar and the only thing of substance I should do that day, I have still not seen it. It is also driving couple of my friends at work a tad worked up that I haven't seen it. Anyways, a friend at work sent out a review of the movie, no spoilers (I wouldn't dare!) here....Review...

The review alludes to the Ender's Game. Ok, I admit it I am a little out of touch with the popular culture in the US. But what is Enders Game?

Van Helsing continued.....

Just checked something on imdb.com.... completely surprised me!!!! In the movie, the role of Carl is played by David Wenham. I was throughly impressed with his acting, so in character, and so very believable as Carl. I couldn't help but think that, I have seen him before, in a movie of course, but where? Well, duh! he played Faramir in Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

Movie: Van Helsing

Another Dracula movie, but I liked it quite a bit. It definitely was more picturesque and sinister than others I have seen. Good writing and humorous appropriately. Hugh Jackman was as usual very dashing and gorgeous. After his work in X-Men, this was not very different, thankfully it was not too repetitive. The CGI was awful in places, but I can overlook that, since the plot was very well written.

Arlington Town Day

Midst a beautiful fall day, Arlington celebrated its Town Day yesterday. The weather was really awesome, to be outdoors with cool brisk breeze and warm day, hint of Fall around the cornor.

It started being a tad disorganized at the town center. As a vendor, I had to get to the designated information counter, but the information booth was setup somewhere else. That made some other folks (also vendors) who were waiting with me quite pissed. It was way to early and too nice a weather for me to get worked up about something like that. By and by, we had our check in town staff and I had my assigned booth #83, between Watertown savings bank and a bunch of quilters booth. To my shock, I realized that I had to get my own table. Wah! of course I did not have that. I was bailed out by nice folks at the church and my sister-in-law. Soon, my sister-in-law and me were happily setting the tables with the sun catchers and jewelry. Soon, beveled sun catchers were glimmering in the sun and jewelry was sparkling. My friends and colleagues from work Valerie and Katy showed up a little later and soon we were ready for the fair. Thanks guys, I could not have managed without you.

All day from 10am till 3pm we had a steady flow of friends, admirers and buyers. It was a good day. I did not get a chance to walk around. But, my friends did walk around and reviewed the fair for me. There were mostly informational and food booths, very few or none for crafts and none with my kind of work. As usual the greek food place had a mile long line and so did the indian food booth. I don't see the attraction of fair food. On one hand the smells of different food intermingling is great, but on the other, I am just not up to it. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind eating at a fair, but eating would not be my goal to go to a fair. 3pm sharp a friendly cop stopped by asking us to start wrapping up. By 4pm we were done and everything packed away in my car.

We are done for this year. It was memorable day and a happy one for me to be amongst friends and family.
